The Paricutin Volcano is one of the most recently formed volcano’s in the Western Hemisphere. It is in Mexico. The Paricutin Volcano is a "wonder" because it only took one week for it to grow out of a hole in the earth to this big volcano. (This is not that usually for a volcano)

The volcano’s Lava covered about 9 square miles almost every time it erupted. The ash and sand from it covered about 19 square miles. It got its name because one time when it erupted, it destroyed a city called Paricutin. So, it was named after the city it destroyed. It destroyed many other cities, too. The volcano probably destroyed most of the corn field that it sits on.

The Paricutin Volcano started as a hole or crack in the ground. It had a small eruption of material and a cone form on the top of it. Then the people of Mexico decided it was a volcano. Then, one week later the volcano was one huge volcano. Now it is about 9,000 feet above sea level and about 1,000 feet above its base.

One of the most recently formed volcanoes in the Western Hemisphere is the Paricutin Volcano. It erupted for 9 years and now it is at rest. It might have destroyed many cities, but at least it is at rest now and can’t harm anyone or anything any more. It just sits in the corn field every day and every night.
